Megan McTavish / Camp of the Good Shepherd Teams 2025

American teams from all over the United States volunteer two weeks of their time serving at camp during the summer. They are responsible for leading games and crafts, singing songs, performing skits, sharing their testimonies, and praying for and with the children. Each week a Romanian team partners together with the American team as translators and ministers. The camp is fully funded by donors. Not a single child is turned away from attending this priceless opportunity each summer. We want each child in the State Placement Centers to have the chance to learn about how they can have a relationship with Jesus Christ. That is only made possible by the many faithful volunteers and donors to our ministry. Are you interested in supporting the Camp of the Good Shepherd and providing for a child to attend camp? A whole week of camp costs $70 per child. This includes room and board, camp tee shirt, craft and game supplies, and hygiene items. Your gift could make all the difference in the world for that child! You are also welcome to support the American Team member(s) as they fundraiser for their flight, room and board, and activity supplies.

About Megan McTavish
I have so many favorite memories, but one stands out above them all. It's a story that truly impacted me and showed me just how amazing our God is and his ability to change the hearts and minds of the children who attend camp.
In 2012, during the last week of camp, we had several challenging behaviors from the young boys from the placement center. There are always some behavioral challenges, so it's expected and we work with the kids during the week to help them feel safe and loved. However, this week the boys were more aggressive than usual toward the female American and Romanian team members. There was one boy in particular who was very aggressive and it was becoming hard to do our assigned tasks. The male Romanian and American team members saw this as a teaching opportunity and took all the boys aside and explained to them how God designed men with strength to protect and care for the girls around them, not to abuse or harm them. After this "intervention" the week went much smoother. My story comes in at the end of the week, when I went to get a soccer ball that had landed in a muddy area. I had no idea how very deep the mud was and sunk down into it past my ankles, to get a ball. The one boy who gave us very aggressive toward me earlier in the week saw what happened and came to my rescue. He took me by the hand and walked me over to the outdoor sink and proceeded to wash my feet (even in between my toes). I was holding back tears as I recognizing what that Christ washed his disciples feet as an act of service to them, and now this young boy had made a complete turn around at camp and was now washing my feet. It is an experience I will never forget as long as I live.
Camp of the Good Shepherd is more than just a fun place to play and spend time with the kids. It truly is a place where God works miracles. These kids look forward to their camp week every summer and remember their experiences at camp for the rest of their lives. Even if you are not able to volunteer at camp, your support of prayers and finances allows those of us who are able to show and share God's deep love for these kids.
